Oahu’s North Shore is arguably one of the best spots on the island for a variety of reasons. Lots of people flock there for the scenic beaches, surfing, and most notably—in my opinion—the food!
I have an unhealthy obsession with desserts (no pun intended), and I’m going to share a few of my favorite ways to fuel it. Next time you visit north shore Oahu, make sure you stop for some of these must-try desserts!
MUST: Lilikoi Cheesecake
Anyone that knows me would tell you that I LOVE my cheesecake. I can be very picky about them, and honestly tend to stick with my regular Cheesecake Factory order. However, I found a great locally flavored cheesecake at Haleiwa Beach House.
This is a lilikoi cheesecake with strawberry drizzle and it’s worth every bite. Lilikoi is the Hawaiian term for “passion fruit” and it’s one of my favorite flavors to try in drinks and desserts since moving here.
It’s a perfect mix of tangy and sweet, so I highly recommend trying it out! Not to mention the Haleiwa Beach House has a great view of the beach in it’s mostly open-air setting.
DEFINITE MUST: Mango Sticky Rice
Another one of my favorites comes from the Thai Bo food truck in the heart of Old Town Haleiwa.
Their mango sticky rice is perfect for when you want a less-sweet but still satisfying dessert. The rice was so warm and coconutty, while the mango and chopped peanuts added a great texture and fruity element.
ABSOLUTE MUST!!: Pineapple Bowl
The pineapple bowl from Aloha General Store is 100% another must-try! If you’ve ever had Dave’s ice cream while visiting Hawai’i, you’re definitely gonna love this.
This is not your average shave ice. It’s got a core of vanilla Dave’s ice cream, topped with shave ice, sweetened condensed milk, pineapple syrup, whipped cream, and pineapple chunks.
They also have a chocolate cherry flavor with chocolate ice cream and cherry syrup that’s equally as delicious. You can also customize your own bowls and smoothies to try mixing different flavors!
While Matsumoto shave ice, another popular place, is also nearby, lots of tourists tend to congregate there which leads to long lines. Meanwhile, every time I’ve visited the Aloha General Store (which is often!) there’s rarely ever a line and the staff is super friendly.
